K Fi Team getting prepared for hungry customers. What a spread! The K Fi Team served 100 burritos to hungry kids at Urban Peak this morning. Our Foundation also brought in hundreds of granola bars, juice boxes, apples and oranges. The coffee machine at the drop in center, which is a very valuable resource for the kids in the morning, reached its end of life so we hustled out to a nearby Starbucks for a few boxes of coffee. Overall, the morning was a huge success and there were many grateful and well nourished kids. Here is a nice write-up from the Urban Peak web site about their breakfast program:
Breakfast at Urban Peak
Every Monday – Friday we serve 75 – 125 youth experiencing homelessness breakfast
Our Drop-In Center at the corner of 21st and Stout in downtown Denver has a long line formed in front of it every weekday morning before 8am as youth gather to come in for breakfast. They also can get some sunscreen, new underwear, tampons or pretty much anything else they need to support them while living on the streets. After breakfast they can take a shower, do some laundry, and a couple of times a month even get a haircut. They can also make an appointment to get medical services, get help with obtaining an ID and sit with one of our incredible Drop-In Center or Outreach staff to talk about further options with Urban Peak like getting a GED, entering our job training program, getting into our emergency shelter or supportive housing options.
