K Fi Team Serves Breakfast Burritos at Urban Peak

We kicked off our first breakfast burrito event of 2014 at Urban Peak this morning and it was a huge success.  Daniel brought 80 Santiagos breakfast burritos and after 90 minutes we had distributed every last one and had to jump on the griddle and start cooking pancakes.  There were lots of hungry kids this morning!  We also brought large bags of oranges and apples and lots of juice for the kids.

Urban Peak has put together a recording studio with drums, guitars and keyboards for the kids to exercise their musical muscles.  While planning today’s event, we discovered that an item that was very high on the UP wish list was a piece of equipment for the studio called a Jam Hub which allows up to 7 musicians to plug into the device and record music in a professional manner.  The K Financial Foundation purchased the Jam Hub for UP and we delivered it this morning before our breakfast shift began.  The Foundation also donated the following items from the UP wish list, which we delivered this morning:

  • 12 large jars of peanut butter
  • 10 loaves of bread
  • 12 bags of chips
  • Nail clippers
  • Shoe insoles

Funny sidenote: The newest member of our team, Tony, was a no-show this morning at our event.  We assumed he had just forgotten about it…but it turned out he went to another one of Urban Peak’s shelters on the opposite side of town.  Rookie mistake!  By the time he figured out he was at the wrong place, the UP staff already had him very busy cooking sausages and getting breakfast prepared.  Nice work Tony!
