K Financial Foundation has its most successful week ever!

The week of April 22, 2013 was incredibly successful for the K Financial Foundation. We started the week off on Monday morning serving breakfast to homeless youth at The Spot in Denver. We provided 70 breakfast burritos, fruit, juice and granola bars. For the first time in a while, there was a completely full house and all 70 burritos were eaten by the homeless kids.  We also provided 10 bags of items from the Spot’s wish list, including 20 pairs of flip flops, 10 pairs of shoes and toothpaste.

On Tuesday we held our annual Pizza Bowl with a group of 10 kids from Mount Saint Vincent Home. The K Financial Foundation has hosted the Pizza Bowl with MSV home for the past 5 years and this year was one of the funnest events yet.

Next year’s Pizza Bowl is going to include a “crazy outfit” theme.

The grand finale of our big week was the best edition ever of our Bikes for Kids program. Under this program, the K Financial Foundation identifies kids in the Denver-Boulder area who are worthy recipients of a new bike. This year we identified two amazing boys from Haiti named Belony and Valdimir. The boys are living in Louisville, CO with their guardian, Wynn, who brought them to the United States last year. Wynn shared with us how he met the boys:

“I met Belony while working at St. Damien’s Hospital in Haiti. He was brought in by a caretaker from the orphanage he was living at at the time and was completely unconscious/unresponsive and had been for 7 days. We began treatment with help of a visiting Mayo Clinic team who was working with us and he began what was a very long road to recovery. After a week or so I went to visit the orphanage he’d been living at, and met Vladimir. I brought Vladimir back with me to see Belony (for both of their sakes)
and in the end Vladimir just stayed with us at the hospital/orphanage we run. Over time I was able to find their family members and take custody of the boys. In May we somewhat miraculously received their educational visas and here we are.”

Louisville Cyclery was instrumental once again this year in outfitting the boys with bikes, helmets and locks. They provide a huge amount of support with this program and it would not be the same without them. Thank you LVC!
Wynn brought Belony and Vladimir by the K Financial office and we surprised them with the bikes.
